Flood Prevention Efforts Clear Over 139,000 MT of Waste Near NAIA
In a major flood prevention effort, the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) has removed over 139,000 metric tons of silt, waste, and debris from surrounding waterways and flood-prone zones near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). The initiative is part of an ongoing project to prevent future flooding and improve overall safety in surrounding communities.
A Multi-Agency Mission
The cleanup covers critical areas in Parañaque, Pasay, and Taguig, including the Estero de Tripa de Gallina and nearby drainage channels. The project, done in collaboration with local government units and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), shows commitment to building more resilient urban zones around key infrastructure.

Why It Matters for OFWs and Families
Many families of OFWs—and returning travelers—live or pass through these areas. The improved drainage not only prevents flooding, but also protects health, homes, and transportation access, especially during typhoon season. For FI students and families from Metro Manila, this is a reminder of how proper infrastructure work directly impacts daily life.

What’s Next
NNIC announced that more phases of the project are underway, including further declogging, water flow restoration, and solid waste removal to ensure the improvements last.
🌧️ Let’s build communities that are prepared and protected.
